GogoKid aims to help Chinese children learn the English language ‘as a tool, not as a goal’. Through their platform, they desire to see students become individuals who have creative and critical thinking skills.

Teachers at GogoKid teach their students one-on-one, based on the U.S. Common Core State Standards and the Chinese standard curriculum.

How Much Does GogoKid Pay?

According to their website, you can make $14 to $25 per hour.

Each class takes approximately 25 minutes so it’s likely that you’ll be earning between $7-10 per class.

You can also raise your pay depending on your credit score. This is how it works.

  • All teachers start with a flat score of 100. You get one point for every three classes you teach.
  • You get one point for every 5-star review you receive.
  • You get a 10% raise when you reach 110 points and a 25% raise when you reach 120 points.

Gogokid pays their teachers by the 15th of every month. This is for the previous month’s classes.  They pay via PayPal or direct deposit but PayPal comes highly recommended.

GogoKid Application Process

The application process is much much easier and smoother compared to other ESL teaching sites.

This is one of the major reasons why teachers prefer teaching at GogoKid. Here’s how it goes:

  • Sign up on the site. You will then need to activate your email after that.
  • Fill in your basic information – your legal name, whether your eligible to work in the US or Canada, teaching experience (teaching experience can mean that you taught at a kids camp, Sunday school, homeschooling, babysitting, etc) how you heard about GogoKid and why you want to teach online.
  • Book your interview. The interview is approximately 30 minutes long with a 10-minute demo lesson. GogoKid will send you all the materials you need for this. Your pay will be based on how well you do this interview.
  • Once the interview is complete, you will hear back from GogoK within 24 hours.
  • The email you receive from GogoKid will inform you either of two things a. you didn’t pass the interview and have to do another one or b. you’re ready to sign the contract.
  • Once you sign the contract, you can set up your teacher profile which is basically you talking a little bit about yourself, stating what characteristics make you unique from other teachers, your hobbies and interests, and probably a little bit about your family if you’re comfortable doing that.

Gogokid contracts are six months long – renewable after a company review.

Gogokid Account Termination

Like many of the online work accounts in the internet, if you misbehave, your contract will be terminated. Some reasons include:

  • If you talk about politically sensitive topics in class.
  • You repeatedly receive negative reviews from parents.
  • If you have more than one GogoKid account.
  • Letting someone teach your student on your behalf.

GogoKid Teaching Specifics – Tips and Tricks

  • You have the highest chances of being booked between 6 and 9 p.m on weekdays and 9 a.m to 9 p.m on weekends – Beijing Time.
  • Try and open as many time slots as you can when you’re starting out in order to increase your chances of getting more bookings.
  • After you finish your classes, you’ll need to write feedback. You can write about what the student learned, what the student improved on, what the student should work on, etc. You need to write that feedback within 12 hours of that class.
  • In your bio, mention a couple of things that make you stand out from other teachers. This, for example, maybe the fact that you aim to help your students pronounce words better or that you are the kind of teacher who is into active learning thus helping the student grasp concepts easily.

Pros of GogoKid

  • GogoKid is a pretty flexible tutoring company. There are no minimum hours required for you to teach.
  • You don’t need to make your own lesson plans as they have their own.
  • The students book you at least 24 hours in advance so that helps you plan your day well.
  • The application process isn’t as tedious as with other online tutoring companies.
  • Your bonuses aren’t based on how many classes you teach.
  • They pay higher than most online teaching companies.
  • You teach children on a one on one basis. You will not teach multiple children.
  • The GogoKid classroom has awesome intuitive tools to make teaching more fun.
  • The GogoKid curriculum isn’t as rigorous compared to an online teaching company like VIPKID.
  • You get paid 60% of your rate if a student cancels at the last minute (student noshow)

Cons of GogoKid

  • At times, for example during the Chinese New Year, bookings can be very slow. This isn’t specific to GogoKids though.
  • Their communication process can be a bit better.

All in all, if you’re looking for an online teaching job that is pro-teacher and one that has an easy application process (and great pay) GogoKid should be at the top of your list. Apply today!
