What are the types of online jobs available? Where do people get online jobs from? Who is a virtual assistant? How can I improve my writing?
These are just a few of the topics that Carol Kay, Susan Gichohi and I tackled on November 12th, 2016.
We were enjoying a lunch break, during the Upwork Success Seminar, when Carol Kay mentioned to me that we should hold a seminar to show women the opportunities that are available online. That was weird, because I had been thinking about the very same thing. Fast forward to November 1, Carol Kay and I met, discussed about the seminar and decided to invite another speaker, Susan Gichuhi.
75 women attended The Empowering Women To Work Online Seminar. They listened to our every word and it was obvious they were soaking it all up like a sponge. It was such a joy to impact the lives of these wonderful women.
A significant number of women were new to matters online work. We are happy to have sown a seed that we hope will germinate soon.
Carol Kay gave tips on how to write articles that your clients will love, for example the need to use stronger verbs, shorter sentences and contractions, using data backed material, etc. She also gave tips on how to avoid online scams. Awesome stuff!
Susan Gichuhi talked about virtual assistant jobs. She went into great detail on the skills that will help you become a highly sought after VA and the tasks that a VA does.
Tasks such as:
-Research
-Customer Service / Technical support
-Social Media Management
-Content Management
-Mailing List Development, etc.
I talked about freelancing in detail – where to get freelancing jobs, the tools, skills and traits needed and I also gave an indepth talk about transcription jobs.
I also gave tips to the ladies on how to become a smart and savvy freelancer.
We also heard testimonials from three ladies who have been successfully working online. The attendees were very inspired with their stories. Â It became clear to the attendees that challenges are a part of this journey. It takes a whole lot of persistence, focus and a desire to never stop learning.
Come next year, we’ll have Edition Two. Â Make sure you don’t miss any updates by following me on Facebook.
Hi, The seminar was waaaaoh, great and awesome!
I enjoyed the introduction, teachings and, which to me, i would say, the entire seminar was more than a training session. I also made new comrades and my life towards venturing on a new business is now settled. Workonline is God sent. I would recommend it to anyone in search of an online job.
The speakers were informative and generous with advise and information. Keep it up!
I look forward to the next seminar.
Beatrice – Transcriber Trainee.
